Search for magnetic long-range order in a spin-liquid candidate K2Ni2(SO4)3

Abstract: We recently synthesised a new compound, K2Ni2(SO4)3, that allows the existence of non-trivial topologicalphases such as skyrmions. Specific heat measurements show the existence of two phases transition at 75K and 0.7K.MuSR and polarised neutron experiments have emphasised the presence of strong correlations without any apparent long-range orderwhich is an indication of a spin-liquid phase. But on the other hand, an experiment on CAMEA revealed a magnetic behaviour of (-100)below 70 K which is a priori contradictory. This is what motivated us to propose a neutron diffraction experiment on powder. We currently own a large batch (60g) of high quality powder. Our goal is to measure the powderdiagram of this compound at four temperatures : 0.5K, 2K, 60K and 80K in order to caracterise the transitions, confirm its long-rangeorder behaviour and derive its magnetic structure.
