Hard-Axis Ordering in Ferromagnetic CeAgSb2
Abstract: We propose to study the low-energy spin fluctuations in ferromagnetic metal CeAgSb2. The ordered moment is oriented away from the direction favored by the lattice. Recent theory, which invokes "Indian rope trick" scenario suggests that the hard axis ordering is stabilized by the strong spin fluctuations when ferromagnetism is suppressed to low temperatures. Here we propose to measure the transverse fluctuations of the ordered moment in zero field and also at high magnetic field, which suppresses the fluctuations and drives the ordering along the true magnetic easy-axis. Our measurements will test the "Indian rope trick" scenario directly.
