Magnetic structure of the quasi-crystal approximant Cd6Dy
Abstract: The family Cd6R (R=rare earths) is a rare example of a family of quasi-crystal approximant which display antiferromagnetic ordering. We have recently performed neutron diffraction measurements and solved the magnetic structure of Cd6Tb, finding a very unusual non-coplanar ground state, in which some of the magnetic sites have half the ordered moment of the others. We now wish to understand whether this unusual behaviour extends to other members of the family by performing powder neutron diffraction on Cd6Dy.
