Crystal structure and magnetism of monoclinic Sr2MnO4
Abstract: We propose to perform a single-crystal neutron diffraction study on the monoclinic layered perovskite Sr2MnO4-x. We have succeeded in growing single crystals of Sr2MnO4-x for the first time in a high pressure floating-zone furnace. Our previous research focused on the tetragonal phase but the monoclinic phase also exhibits magnetic order with a so-far undertermined spin structure. Using SXD, we will perform neutron diffraction measurements to refine the crystal structure, paying particular attention to the oxygen content. Additionally, we will aim at confirming the presence of magnetic order at temperatures below 100K. Our goal will be to find a potential propagation vector and refine the possible magnetic structure.
