External magnetic field effects on exotic magnetic fluctuations in a new Ti-based kagome system Cs8LiK3Ti12F48

Abstract: Ti-based kagome antiferromagnets provide a strong route for exploring frustrated quantum magnetism beyond the well-studied Cu-based systems. Our recent single-crystal inelastic neutron scattering studies on the related compounds Cs8RbK3Ti12F48 and Cs8LiNa3Ti12F48 revealed magnetic responses ranging from a gapless kagome-like excitation continuum to strongly anisotropic quasi-one-dimensional correlations. Our recent high-field magnetization measurements on Cs8LiK3Ti12F48 at 0.6 K, with the field applied perpendicular to the kagome planes, reveal a clear plateau-like feature near one-ninth of the saturation magnetization over the range approximately 5 T < H < 15 T, indicating a field-stabilized magnetic phase. We propose time-of-flight inelastic neutron scattering measurements on co-aligned single crystals of Cs8LiK3Ti12F48 on LET at ISIS, at both 0 T and 9 T, to establish the intrinsic magnetic correlations of this compound and directly probe the plateau regime. Using Ei = 3 meV and Ei = 18 meV, we will investigate possible gap opening, redistribution of spectral weight, enhanced elastic or quasi-elastic scattering, and field-induced excitation branches. These measurements will determine whether static order develops in the plateau state and will provide microscopic constraints on the field-induced spin structure and exchange anisotropy.
