Local Magnetic Excitations in Isocompositional Disordered CrRuCl4(pyz)4

Abstract: We propose to measure the magnetic excitation spectrum of three samples of 2 g of deuterated CrRuCl4(pyz)4 with different levels of cation disorder using the MAPS spectrometer at ISIS to probe the strong magnetic superexchange between Cr(III) and pyrazine radicals, and the weaker interactions between radicals. Measurements will be performed across the full energy range using Ei = 15, 100 and 400 meV using the S chopper configuration to optimise flux. Data will be collected at temperatures of 4 K, 15 K, and 80 K using a closed-cycle refrigerator. These conditions allow access to the full bandwidth of magnetic excitations while maintaining sufficient resolution (~2 3%) to resolve dispersion. The wide Q and E coverage of MAPS is particularly suited to detecting both Cr-centred and ligand-based radical magnetism. The resulting S(Q,E) will be analysed using SpinW and compared with ab initio calculations.
