Spin ordering and low energy spectral weight on a spin chain
Abstract: We plan to use OSIRIS to interrogate the low lying spectral weight in NaYbTe O a proposed spin chain system. We have single crystals and powders, but for this proposal we will use the larger mass of the powder, rather than our small crystals. Bulk property measurements indicate there are a few critical phases in the temperature/magnetic field phase space. We plan to study most of this phase space in two different experiments, one where we probe low temperatures and one where we use the 7T magnet. With these data, we will be able to confirm our assumption that there is only one set of excitations, helping to identify the origins of the observed excess entropy.
