Search for a Possible Spin-Liquid State in a Highly Frustrated Cr³? Kagome Antiferromagnet via ?SR
Abstract: Frustration-driven quantum fluctuations in kagome magnets can stabilize exotic states such as quantum spin liquids (QSLs), though their experimental realization is often hindered by disorder. We investigate the Cr^3+ (S = 3/2) mineral YCa (CrO) (BO ) , where Cr^3+ ions form a two-dimensional network of corner-sharing triangles. Despite strong antiferromagnetic interactions (J = 116 K, J = 33 K), no magnetic ordering or spin freezing is observed down to 60 mK. Instead, susceptibility and specific heat reveal broad maxima consistent with short-range correlations, while low-temperature behavior (Cm ~ T^2 ) suggests gapless excitations and algebraic spin correlations. These results motivate sensitive local-probe measurements. We propose a muSR study at millikelvin temperatures using a dilution refrigerator to determine the ground state and probe low-energy excitations in this candidate kagome QSL.
