Structure of Spontaneously Soluble 2D Borophene Oxide
Abstract: 2D borophene oxide (2D-BO) is a layered crystal of stacked 2D monolayers which have suprising solubility and immense promise for a range of next-generation electronic devices and sensors. Single crystal XRD measurements indicate the structure of the 2D sheets is a highly ordered porous hexagonal lattice of boron with stabilising oxygen bridges. However, our recent data (Raman, IR, 1H/11B NMR, TEM-EDS) indicate that a large fraction of hydrogen is present throughout the crystal and not simply at the dilute edges as had been previously assumed. Here, we will undertake single crystal neutron diffraction measurements to unambiguously assign the structure of 2D-BO. The new understanding will allow us to design new reactions to tune 2D-BO properties and accelerate its implementation in real world devices.
