Magnetic excitations in a molecular magnetite cluster
Abstract: Molecular clusters based on iron-oxo fragments are of interest for affordable, non-toxic, sub-Kelvin magnetocalorics. Despite their numerous advantages, the development of these materials is hindered by a lack of design principles, as their high nuclearity complicates any analysis of the electronic structure. Herein, we will determine the magnetic anisotropy and magnetic exchange interactions in an octanuclear iron cluster by inelastic neutron scattering, as part of a systematic study on the magnetostructural correlations in these materials.
