Kinetic Controlling of Alkene Chain-walking on Heterogeneous Ru Catalysts with the Confinement of Dienes
Abstract: We request 4 days on TOSCA to carry out an inelastic neutron scattering (INS) study of a Ru-based catalyst (RuOx/SiO2) that can promote selective conversion of long chain linear -alkene into front-end internal alkenes (2- and 3-alkenes). The proposed study will investigate the vibrational spectroscopy of the catalyst, adsorption of guest molecules ( -alkene, conjugated dialkenes) and reaction intermediates (such as metal hydride, Ru-OH) on different states of the supported Ru surface. Specifically, this INS study aims to elucidate the role of conjugated dienes in kinetically controlling the (random) walk of the alkene double bond (Fig. 1). We recently discovered that the presence of conjugated dialkenes enables selective shift of end standing olefins while leaving the internal ones unreacted, thus achieving high selectivity towards front-end internal alkenes, breaking the tendency to form the thermodynamic composition of the possible internal olefins.
