Measuring Zero Point Energy of Sorbed H2 and D2: Insight into quantum sieving
Abstract: It is increasingly desirable to develop a more economic separation of hydrogen isotopes. One route is to use 'quantum sieving' which exploits quantum effects that differ between H2 and D2. Where the difference in pore diameter and sorbate size is on the order of the de Broglie wavelength is where this dominates. As the mass of D2 and H2 are different, their de Broglie wavelengths differ, and this results in a different zero point energy when confined. We want to measure this for hydrogen and deuterium in zeolite rho, where diffusion parameters are available in the literature
