Field effect of quantum spin liquid candidata Ce2Hf2O7
Abstract: Recently, a series of Ce-based pyrochlore compounds Ce2T2O7 (T = Sn, Zr, Hf) has been proposed as dipole-octupole (DO) quantum spin ice (QSI) candidates. Depending on the parameters, it can have dipole or octupole dominance, and a 0-flux or pi-flux region. By examining how an applied magnetic field influences the magnetic spectra, we can gain deeper insights into the magnetic interactions and field-tuned transitions within Ce-based pyrochlore. Recent theoretical calculations report the QSI behavior in Ce-based pyrochlore under various magnetic field directions ([1, 1, 0], [1, 1, 1], and [1, 0, 0]) and strengths. We choose to study the field effect on the magnetic spectra of Ce2Hf2O7 along the [1, 1, 1] direction. We will incrementally increase the magnetic field strength along [1, 1, 1] direction, measure the changes in both the elastic and inelastic channels, and compare with the calculation.
