Bis(dimethylglyoximato)nickel(II) as a PVT Pressure Standard

Abstract: The aim of this experiment is to provide data for determination of the PVT equation of state (EoS) of bis(dimethylglyoximato)nickel(II) [Ni(dmg) ], a potentially very useful pressure standard particularly at the low pressures and temperatures required for studies of macromolecules, where existing standards like NaCl and NaF are insensitive. [Ni(dmg) ] is insoluble, easy to prepare, and shows high sensitivity of lattice parameters to small pressure changes, making it ideal for example, for graphene liquid cell studies of proteins by microcrystal electron diffraction. The proposed experiment will obtain data between 140-300 K at pressures between 0.5 and 4 GPa. These data will be added to other recently collected data to enable fitting of the EoS over a wide range of conditions. A parallel proposal has been be submitted to Diamond to obtain high-temperature/high-pressure data points.
