Compositional depth profiling of perovskite solar cell electron transport layers (ETL)
Abstract: Perovskite solar cells (PSC) are predicted to break into the silicon dominated solar power market soon because they offer a low cost alternative to exiting PV technologies.PSCs now deliver device performances (~27% power conversion efficiency) comparable to the very best Si based devices but are hindered by issues with device stability and scalable manufacturing processes. Using inorganic metal oxide ETLs improves the device stability, but unanswered questions remain about the interaction between the perosvkite and these ETL materials. We propose to use neutron reflectivity (NR) investigate the influence of the processing conditions used to form ETLs. In particular the use of ZnO2, SnO2 and mixed metal oxide nanoparticle suspensions to produce thin ETL films by industrially relevant coating techniques. Using neutron reflectivity (NR) on OFFSPEC (or INTER) we will monitor evaporated, sputtered, spray coated, slot die cast and spin cast films of SnO2 and ZnO2. In doing so we will build up a compositional profile of the ETL films and therefore better understand the strucutre function relsationships within these devices.
