Li-ion diffusion in the perovskite-Type Lithium Ion- Conducting Oxides studied by muons
Abstract: To improve the safety and performance of current lithium-ion batteries, developing all-solid-state batteries with solid electrolytes is a crucial challenge. Among many candidates, the perovskite-type oxide La?/???Li??TiO? (LLTO) has attracted attention due to its high ionic conductivity (~10?³ S/cm at room temperature) and good chemical stability in air. LLTO exhibits a layered structure formed by the partial ordering of Li and La ions along the c-axis, which is believed to influence lithium-ion transport. Despite a relatively high lithium self-diffusion coefficient comparable to that of sulfide-based conductors, LLTO shows a much lower macroscopic ionic conductivity, and the cause of this discrepancy remains unclear. In this proposal, we aim to investigate the microscopic diffusion behavior of Li? ions in LLTO using muon spin relaxation (?SR) measurements. By analyzing the fluctuation rate and field distribution width obtained from relaxation spectra, we plan to determine the lithium diffusion coefficient using both the Gaussian Kubo-Toyabe function and newer models that consider ion dynamics. We will also explore the potential for muon diffusion and its temperature dependence. Measurements will be conducted on LLTO samples with x = 0.03, 0.10, and 0.13 over a temperature range of 50?350 K. This study will provide fundamental insights into lithium-ion dynamics in perovskite oxides and contribute to the development of more efficient solid electrolytes.
