Proton/Deuteron Kinetic Energies of H2O and D2O Confined Within Polyamide Membranes
Abstract: We request 7 days on VESUVIO to characterise the proton and deuteron kinetic energy of water (H2O and D2O) confined within polyamide (PA) membranes as a function of loading. This proposal forms part of a commissioning effort for flexible, in situ fuel cell designs for combined neutron and X-ray characterisation. In addition to the fundamental chemical characterisation of confined media via neutron Compton scattering (NCS), whilst this proposal does not incorporate operando measurements (as recently and successfully trialled for SAXS-SANS on D22 at the ILL using a similarly deigned cell), broadband neutron transmission characterisation of a QENS/transmission cell and its operation under gas-cycling conditions are an important feature of this proposal.
