Imaging of Moderator shell on IMAT
Abstract: Neutron moderators are critical components of the ISIS neutron source. A cold moderator vessel is a highly complex system that must operate reliably over extended periods of weeks to months, to ensure reliable ISIS operation. The alignment of the internal structures within the moderator vessels is critical to their thermal performance. We aim to investigate the internal structure of a TS2 CH moderator under both ambient and cryogenic conditions, to identify potential weak points prior to its installation in ISIS TS2 in summer 2026. This represents the first low-temperature inspection of a moderator conducted on IMAT.
