Neutron tests of the transmission and reflectivity of the new wide-angle MAGIC polarisation analyser
Abstract: MAGiC is going to be a diffractometer of the European Spallation Source dedicated to magnetism research. Its solid-state polarization analyzer covers 120 degrees in the working range of 2-6 Angstroem. The analyzer consistes of 189 individual stacks glued from double-coated polarizing Si wafers each 0.16mm thick. Each stack is inclined to the beam direction by 0.45 degree and the neutrons travel inside the Si and get reflected on the supermirrorr. The design has been validated by simulation and the performance of the polarization and overall transmission could be established on instruments with a predominantly cold spectrum. To fully characterize the performance of the design, it is necessary to better resolve the transmission as a function of wavelength particularly in the thermal range, such that possible Laue extinctions can be taken in account for. We want to study the transmission properties of 4 individual stacks.
