Comparative Structural Analysis of Pristine and Recycled Perovskites
Abstract: Recycling of perovskite materials for photovoltaic applications is a critical issue that needs to be solved before the materials enter the market in full-scale, both to prevent generation of electronic waste and extraction of critical raw materials. Our collaborators at Linkoping University have addressed this issue by developing a recycling method that can recover all layers of a degraded device. Impressively, devices made from the recovered materials demonstrate equivalent efficiencies as pristine ones, even after five degradation and recycling cycles. Hence, this proposal aims at investigating differences in ion diffusion rates and atomic structures of the following pristine and recycled perovskite powders: MAPbI3, FAPbI3, and MA0.5FA0.5PbI3, using both muSR and NPD measurements at EMU and POLARIS. Since ionic diffusion and the atomic structure of the perovskites are closely linked to the stability and long-term lifetime of photovoltaic devices, we believe that this study will provide essential results for the development of future photovoltaic recycling systems.
