?SR study of Jeff = 1/2 frustrated triangular lattice antiferromagnet Ca3CoTa2O9

Abstract: We propose to study a Co -based frustrated triangular lattice antiferromagnetic compound Ca3CoTa2O9 (CCTO), which features a Jeff = 1/2 ground state at lower temperatures. The compound exhibits a sharp anomaly at 0.83 K in zero-field heat capacity, reflecting the onset of a magnetic long-range order. With the applied field, this transition is suppressed and disappears above 2 T. With a moderate frustration ratio f > 4 and enhanced quantum fluctuations due to Jeff = 1/2, Ca3CoTa2O9 provides an ideal platform to host exotic quantum phases, including quantum spin liquid, at low temperatures. We propose to measure a series of zero-field measurements at different temperatures down to 0.05 K, complemented by longitudinal decoupling scans to verify the presence of state and/or dynamic magnetic order.
