Investigation of the Emergent Magnetic Excitations in the Hole Doped Manganites Compounds of La0.7Ca0.2-x?xSr0.1MnO3 (x = 0.0 ? 0.1)
Abstract: We propose inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements on La0.7Ca0.2-x xSr0.1MnO3 (x = 0.05 0.10) to investigate magnetic excitations and exchange interactions near the Curie temperature (TC). Cation deficiency ( ) introduces Mn2+ alongside Mn3+ and Mn4+, leading to competing super-exchange and double-exchange interactions that produce complex magnetic phases and anomalous magnetocaloric effects (MCE). Preliminary data from XPS and neutron powder diffraction suggest inhomogeneous magnetic states and spin fluctuation effects, especially in LV-10-SSR, but the nature of magnetic excitations remains unresolved. INS on the MERLIN spectrometer will allow us to map spin-wave spectra and quantify exchange parameters across temperature and composition. Measurements will be performed at 5 K, 150 K, and 360 K using Ei = 100 meV and rep-rate multiplication for simultaneous spectra at lower energies. The data will be analyzed using linear spin wave theory (SPINW) to distinguish long-range and short-range magnetic order and identify coexisting phases. This study will provide critical insight into the role of Mn valence mixing and cation deficiency in driving phase transitions and enhancing MCE. We request 4 days of beam time to measure six compositions and complete the excitation mapping essential to our broader investigation of magnetic structure.
