A quasi-binary critical fluid with antagonistic and TmCl3 salt - the search for the critical composition
Abstract: The considered fluid has displayed charge density waves where the planar wave fronts formed by the antagonistic salt confine the binary fluid of 3-picolin and heavy water to two dimensions. The TmCl3 salt was added to be able to align the domains and wave fronts in an external magnetic field (~7 Tesla). In previous measurements, we were able to align the domains to a certain extent, but we saw unfavorable, not perfect criticality and precipitation of TmCl3. Thus, we need to adjust the compositions in a preparatory experiment before the final experiment with magnetic field can take place.
