Magnetic Excitations in Co?TiO?: A Mg?TiO? Reference Study

Abstract: We request rapid access beam time to measure the neutron scattering response of Mg TiO (MTO) as a non magnetic reference for comparison with our recent measurements on Co TiO (CTO). Our CTO experiment revealed unexpectedly broad excitations in both momentum and energy, raising the possibility that Ti may contribute magnetically. Establishing the intrinsic response of MTO is therefore essential for unambiguously interpreting the CTO data. Although MTO measurements were included in our original proposal, the unexpectedly broadened features in CTO required extended counting times, preventing completion of the reference study. With the CTO experiment now finished, acquiring the MTO dataset is both timely and critical for publication quality analysis. This measurement will directly support ongoing work led by early career researchers and graduate students, enabling rapid dissemination of results.
