Strain-tuned magnetic structure of altermagnetic MnTe

Abstract: We propose neutron diffraction measurements on epitaxial MnTe films grown on different substrates to determine their magnetic domain population and understand the role of interfacial strain in shaping the anomalous Hall effect observed. It has recently been demonstrated that single crystal MnTe may be strain tuned, with the transport properties being highly sensitive to crystal distortion. We have deposited high-quality MnTe onto GaAs(111) and InP(111) and find very different anomalous Hall responses. We propose to use neutron diffraction to examine the evolution of the MnTe spin texture with changes in the transport properties.
