Iranian iron sword in focus - investigating ancient technology with modern analytical techniques
Abstract: We propose to analyse a sample of an ancient Iranian iron sword dating to ca. 1000 BC for a methodological study comparing results obtained with different analythical techniques. The sample has already been analysed metalographically and with SEM, and a diffraction measurement will allow us to compare standard methods used in archaeometallurgy with this completely non-destructive neutron technique. Around 12 hours will be needed for the measurement. The sword belongs to the same type as swords analysed in RB 2220608 and the results of these analyses will be compared.
