Field-dependent magnetic structure determination of CeSb0.34Te1.67

Abstract: We propose to investigate the field-dependent magnetic structure of the square-net compound CeSb0.34Te1.67 using single-crystal neutron diffraction on WISH. This compound exhibits colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) exceeding 20,000% and an extremely sharp angular magnetoresistance (AMR) of over 1,000% per radian, with indications of a strong coupling between electronic transport and magnetic ordering. Our magnetization and resistivity measurements reveal multiple step-like transitions and striking anisotropy as a function of field direction, suggesting a rich magnetic phase diagram closely tied to the unusual transport properties while prior zero-field powder diffraction revealed an antiferromagnetic ground state with propagation vector k = 0, motivating field-dependent studies on single crystals. We aim to determine the evolution of the magnetic structure under magnetic fields applied both along the crystallographic c-axis and within the ab plane, to correlate magnetic ordering with the observed CMR and AMR. These results will provide essential inputs for theoretical modeling and help uncover the microscopic origins of extreme magneto-transport in this square-net-based material.
