Spin correlations in YbZn2GaO5, a candidate for the U(1) Dirac Quantum Spin Liquid behaviour

Abstract: We propose to probe the development of magnetic correlations in YbZn2GaO5 by single crystal neutron diffraction. This new compound has recently been reported to demonstrate a rather rare quantum spin liquid behaviour, suggested from the observations of the temperature dependence of the heat capacity and the magnetic excitations spectrum studied with inelastic neutron scattering. Although the system remains in the disordered state down to the lowest experimentally available temperatures, we should be able to observe the spin-spin correlations through the diffuse scattering measurements. It would also be very interesting to see how the applied magnetic field influences the magnetic correlations, as it potentially might drive the system into the ordered state.
