Investigating the in-situ illumination capability for the study of photoinitiated reactions
Abstract: Photinitiated reactions, such as the Norrish reaction, are prevalent across a wide range of chemistry schemes. These kinds of reactions offer vital synthetic steps to intricate and important organic synthesis targets. This proposal is part of the ongoing commissioning of the recently developed in-situ illumination capability at ISIS. The aim of this experiment is to investigate the feasibility of using this equipment to study a photoinitiated type II Norrish reaction of 1,4-diphenyl-1-butanone (DPB). If successful, this capability could provide a vital new tool for the study of photoinitiated reactions, photocatalysis, and intermediates of photochemical processes.
