Developing large area perfect crystal neutron interferometers for quantum information
Abstract: We have fabricated a large area perfect silicon crystal neutron interferometer (NI) that is well-suited for various fundamental physics applications. With an instrument like LARMOR, we can create a 3-qubit system that is interesting for quantum information applications and analyzing soft matter materials. The different two-level systems are given by path separation with the NI Bragg diffraction, spin polarization states, and additional path separation with magnetic fields. Further, the interferometer will eventually be split for high precision measurements of gravity and for the search of new forces. The experiment will analyze the Bragg diffracted beams at LARMOR and measure the contrast of the perfect crystal neutron interferometers. We will use the quantum information model for DD to compare with experimental results and quantify effects that alter the interference pattern. With the several two-level systems at our disposal, we can analyze interference patterns and determine the different multi-qubit states which is of great interest for quantum information applications. Furthermore, these benchmark measurements for the large area NI are important for full characterization before we split it into two crystals, resulting in a highly sensitive system useful for probing weak interactions and searching for new forces.
