A quantum spin liquid candidate in a two dimensional CoII and RhIII bimetallic oxalate network

Abstract: A quantum spin liquid (QSL) is a system of interacting spins for which quantum fluctuations prevent long-range magnetic order (LRO), even at zero temperature. The search for experimental realisations of a QSL is a highly active field, and the 2D honeycomb network provided by metal-oxalate coordination polymers is a promising route to explore. Here, we propose to carry out muon-spin relaxation (µSR) measurement on a novel candidate QSL comprising a two dimensional CoII and RhIII bimetallic oxalate network. We will use zero-field µSR to confirm the absence of LRO. Longitudinal field µSR will then be used to study the dynamics of the diffusing spinons and compare these with the predictions of currently available theoretical models.
