Muon spectroscopy studies of sodium-ion diffusion in layered transition metal oxides for positive electrode battery applications
Abstract: We propose to conduct muon spectroscopy experiments on layered transition metal oxide, Na2/3+xNi1/3-xMn2/3-xNbxO2, with x = 0, 0.02, 0.03), in order to gain improved understanding of local dynamics and Na diffusion rates in this material for Na+-ion battery applications. We request 4 days of beamtime on Emu in order to conduct the necessary experiments. The data collected from this model system will be essential in improved understanding and development of this and other layered transition metal oxide electrode materials as Na+-ion batteries race towards commercialisation.
