Probing superfluid transition in helium films using neutron reflectometry.
Abstract: Resent successes in studying superfluid helium films by neutron reflectometry on the POLREF instrument have opened new opportunities in low dimensional quantum fluids research. We can now use reflectometry to address fundamental problems in areas of quantum fluids such as the influence of geometrical restriction on Bose-Einstein Condensation. In the proposed experiment we are going to measure the superfluid transition temperature as a function of the helium film thickness. To make the data analysis more efficient we intend to make use of reference layers on the substrates.
