Tensile behaviour of a PBF-LB/M Ni-based superalloy studied as a function of ?' preciptitation state and temperature
Abstract: The actual environmental challenges require a huge effort from all industrial sectors to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gasses and pollutants. In this context, aeronautics is deeply concerned as one of the most emissive industrial sectors. The answer to this pressing challenge is complex and involves new fuels and engine concepts, new aerostructures with higher weight-savings, as well as new, energy-efficient, and sustainable manufacturing technologies and materials. Nevertheless, current materials suitable for metal additive manufacturing have a limited temperature range of temperature application. The focus of this proposal is on the micro-mechanical behaviour a relatively new VDM780 alloy produced by laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB/M), which is expected to allow higher in-service operation temperatures and durability than the current available AM nickel-based superalloys. The microstuture-dependent mechanical behavior of this VDM780 alloy is so far barely investigated. Therefore, a set of in-situ tensile experiments at room and elevated temperatures is proposed in order to invetigate the mechanical response as a function of the ?' preciptitation state (namely, fine and coarse type of precipitates).
