Spray drying / microencapsulating technology to preserve bioactives in plant material and botanical combinations

Abstract: Cleobury is an innovative company based in Mid-Wales, specialising in the cultivation and processing of high-value, novel plants, on elevated terrane. They are attempting to enhance potential health benefits of these plants after human consumption. They have been advancing spray drying / microencapsulating technology to preserve bioactives in plant material and botanical combinations. Here we propose to use small-angle neutron scattering to investigate the porous nature and surface morphology of spray dried powder, to indicate whether and how the carriers encapsulate the active ingredients at a molecular level, to improve the understanding of the microencapsulation process.
