Probing Low Energy Magnetic Excitations Through INS Measurements
Abstract: The search for novel quantum states drives advancements in condensed matter physics, with rare-earth-based materials emerging as promising candidates due to their strong spin-orbit coupling. In Kramers ions like Yb3+, the crystal electric field (CEF) lifts degeneracies, often yielding a well-isolated spin-1/2 quantum degree of freedom protected by time reversal symmetry, enabling entangled spin states [2]. In this proposal, we propose to investigate a dimer-based compound Yb2Te5O13 as a potential quantum spin liquid (QSL) candidate.
