Investigation of topological magnons in the non-centrosymmetric van der Waals magnet CrVI6

Abstract: Two-dimensional van der Waals magnets have been intensively studied over the years. However, most materials studied up-to-date are centrosymmetric, which excludes significant Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Recently discovered ferromagnet CrVI6 is an exception that is intrinsically non-centrosymmetric. Here we propose to study the spin wave and its thermal evolution with inelastic neutron scattering. We aim to determine the magnetic Hamiltonian and study the topological features in the magnon spectrum. We will focus on the size of the magnon Dirac gap and will compare it with those well-studied centrosymmetric compounds, particularly CrI3.
