Magnetic diffuse scattering study of M-TbTaO4
Abstract: We propose a single-crystal neutron diffraction study on monoclinic M-TbTaO4, a potential quantum magnetoelectric material with the magnetic Tb3+ ions situated on a distorted diamond network. We will measure at six temperatures between 1.5 K and 300 K. The large Q-space coverage of SXD will let us study the diffuse magnetic scattering as a function of temperature and correlate it with our measurements of the magnetic susceptibility and dielectric permittivity, which show several unexplained features in this temperature range.
