Investigating the Structure of Liquid Benzene:Acetonitrile Mixture
Abstract: Benzene and acetonitrile are two of the most commonly used solvents in most chemistry laboratories and are found as a mixture in various different environments. To date, there is only one study of this mixture's structure as a co-crystal. Therefore, this proposal aims to use SANDALS to fully characterise the structure of the 3:1 benzene:acetonitrile mixture as a liquid for the first time to expand on the incredibly limited literature. This will be done by employing standard isotopic substitution and taking advantage of SANDALS? high resolution operating Q range that will give us great insight into the molecular and bulk structure of the mixture. For this, we request 2 days of beam time with the sample changer.
