Determining the role of inversion symmetry in single crystals of the noncentro-symmetric superconductor La7Ir3 by µSR: A continuation
Abstract: In superconductors, the inversion symmetry of the crystallographic structure plays a central role in the formation of the Cooper pairs. When inversion symmetry is broken, there is the possibility of a mixing of singlet-triplet pairing, leading to unconventional superconducting properties. At Warwick, we have successfully synthesized large, high-quality single crystals of noncentrosymmetric hexagonal superconductor La7Ir3. We now aim to investigate what the role of broken inversion symmetry has on the superconducting properties of La7Ir3 using these single crystals. This proposal forms a continuation of a previous experiment, RB1810665. We have now fully analysed the data collected from RB1810665 and have identified significant issues with the data that were collected. In this new proposal we wish to collect the data again for the [100] crystallographic direction in TF and work closely with the instrument scientists to ensure that we can avoid the issue of stray fields which were the source of the issues in the original data. This will allow us to complete our analysis and write up our results. Further to this, we would also aim to measure the ZF along another crystallographic direction, specifically [001], to identify if time-reversal symmetry breaking is observed along two crystallographic directions.
