Magnetic structure of CeIr4Al4 using single crystal neutron diffraction
Abstract: Recently, we have investigated caged-type tetragonal CeRh4Al15, which reveals the present of quantum Griffiths singularity in the stoichiometric heavy-fermion system without any sign of long range magnetic ordering down to 0.07 K. The compound CeIr4Al15 is isostructural with CeRh4Al15 and UIr4Al15 (TN=20 K). Our studies show that CeIr4Al15 undergoes an antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition below 1.5 K. The single crystal susceptibility of CeIr4Al15 exhibits a across-over from an easy c-axis to an easy a-axis near 100 K, which indicates a possibility of a hard axis magnetic ordering. Neutron diffraction provides a direct and precise means of probing, the direction and magnitude of the ordered state moments, hence offering valuable insights into the behaviour of systems influenced by RKKY and Kondo interactions. The proposed neutron diffraction experiment on SXD on CeIr4Al5 plays a critical role in advancing our understanding of condensed matter physics and the behaviour of magnetic materials at the atomic and electronic level.
