Muon Spin Relaxation Study of Magnetism in Quasi-1D Heavy Fermion Antiferromagnet Ce3TiAs5
Abstract: Very recently Ce3TiAs5 was successfully synthesized under high-pressure, and was found to exhibit heavy fermion behaviour with a hexagonal structure (space group of P63/mcm) consisting of zig-zag chains of Ce atoms along the c-axis. Magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity and heat capacity data clearly show anomalies associated with a magnetic phase transition of antiferromagnetic nature at TN = 13 K, which was also supported through the observation of a metamagnetic transition in M vs H at 0.7 T at 2 K. The electrical resistivity reflects the Kondo lattice behaviour and the low temperature heat capacity reveals an enhanced Sommerfeld coefficient characterizing Ce3TiAs5 as a Kondo lattice heavy fermion system. Further investigations using the microscopic muon spin relaxation measurements would be very useful to understand the magnetic ordering and spin dynamics in Ce3TiAs5. We therefore propose to carry out µSR measurements on Ce3TiAs5 using the ?SR spectrometer EMU.
