Magnetic excitations in quasi-one-dimensional zigzag chain antiferromagnet: SrCoV2O7
Abstract: Structural analysis from the x-ray diffraction data for SrCoV2O7 has been confirmed the zigzag arrangement of Co2+ ions in a quasi-one-dimensional chain. Magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity measurements revealed an antiferromagnetic phase transition at Neel temperature (TN) ? 3.5 K, characterized by a decrease in susceptibility below TN, and negative Curie-Weiss temperatures. Here, we proposed to investigate CEF excitations at various temperature and energies. The results of the proposed study will provide the direct microscopic evidence of the nature of spin state from the Co2+ zigzag chain antiferromagnet of the SrCoV2O7. The acquired knowledge from the present study will be helpful to understand the magnetic excitations along with spin sate and CEF energy level splitting. excitations present in the antiferromagnetic Co2+ CaCoV2O7. The Co2+ ions is in the distorted octahedral environment and are expected to have an effective spin-1/2 due to spin-orbit coupled Kramers doublet ground state, very much similar to the CaCoV2O7 [Ref. Isha et al. PRR 6, L032010 (2024)]. This could be confirmed by measuring the crystal field excitations using an inelastic neutron scattering study at MERLIN beamline.
