Understanding the Nature of Magnetic and Structural Transitions in Double Perovskite (Ca0.5Mn1.5)MnWO6
Abstract: Materials that have ordered electric dipoles and magnetic spins are in general called multiferroics. After intensive studies, a general classification was introduced with type-I and type-II multiferroics. We have recently observed an interesting behavior in the double perovskite (Ca0.5Mn1.5)MnWO6 (Chem. Mater. 2024, 36, 7604), where features of type-I and type-II multiferroics are combined. We propose neutron diffraction experiments to determine magnetic structures of (Ca0.5Mn1.5)MnWO6 to understand the nature of magnetodielectric behavior at TN, and to determine temperature evolution of structural parameters to understand the Curie-Weiss behavior of dielectric constant in a wide temperature range as it is expected that the presence of small Mn2+ cations at large A perovskite sites can contribute to its unusual behavior of dielectric constant. Understanding the exact nature of magnetic orders as a function of temperature will allow us to unravel the microscopic physics at play in this example of perovskite-related materials.
