Investigation of in-field multi-k magnetic ordering in TbRu2Ge2 using single-crystal neutron diffraction
Abstract: Multi-k magnetic ordered states exhibit exotic and fascinating physical phenomena such as the magnetic skyrmion. As examples of material hosting centrosymmetric skyrmion, GdRu2Si2 and GdRu2Ge2 have been investigated by means of neutron and X-ray diffraction experiments. In this work, we propose a single-crystal neutron diffraction experiment in magnetic fields on WISH to characterise the field-induced magnetic ordered states in the TbRu2Ge2. The magnetic properties and multi-k magnetic structures of TbRu2Ge2 are closely related to isostructural compounds GdRu2Si2 and GdRu2Ge2 without a spin-orbit coupling. On the other hand, the spin-orbit coupling for the Tb3+ ion introduces a strong magnetic anisotropy. Therefore, our study of TbRu2Ge2 will provide an essential comparison for understanding the stability of skyrmion in centrosymmetric materials with and without spin-orbit coupled materials.
