H/D effect in the Manganese analogue of Prussian Blue
Abstract: The manganese analogue of Prussian Blue of formula Mn(II)3[Mn(III)(CN)6]2?(D2O)6.xD2O (x = 6-10) is the first deuterated Prussian Blue analogue (PBA) that has shown a structural phase transition from cubic to tetragonal at low temperature in an X-ray single crystal diffraction study on a sample of volume about 0.02 mm3. Such small crystals have always been impossible to use in a neutron diffraction experiment, especially on SXD for the low power of the ISIS Neutron source and the low flux of the water moderator. Recently the upgrade of all detectors on SXD to the new Wavelength Shifting Fibre technology, has open the possibility of challenging the limit of the instrument and use much smaller samples. This experiment has the dual aim of: i) testing the capability of the new detectors with a real challenging sample; ii) gather new information on the structure of the d-MnPB.
