Structural investigation of ice II, possibility of difference in hydrogen sublattice
Abstract: Ice II is known as a hydrogen-ordered phase lacking its disordered counterpart. Our calorimetric experiments on the transition to ice Isd suggest that ice II differs in structure depending on the mother phase from which ice II forms. Yet, it is unclear whether ice II or ice Isd (or both) are affected in terms of differences in the sublattice of D atoms. In this project, we will investigate ice II and ice Isd prepared from different mother phases from a structural aspect, aspiring a potential discovery of a route to disordered ice II.
