The ancient metal production in Gonfienti: non-invasive characterization of residual strain and microstructure through ToF-ND

Abstract: The most important archaeological discovery related to the Etruscan world occurred in the last 20 years is relative to the site of Gonfienti, an area between Firenze and Prato. We propose to analyse 9 samples rediscovered in neighbouring excavation areas. The samples are divided in two sets, pertaining to the ?Lotto 14? and the ?Viabilità? sites and two sub sets of ingots and finite artefacts were selected from both areas. In order to obtain high spatial resolution phase mapping and residual strain and detailed microstructure information, we plan to perform ToF-ND diffraction on ENGIN-X.
