INS STUDY OF NITROGEN FUNCTIONAL GROUPS ON CARBON DOTS (CDs) - TOSCA

Abstract: This research aims to elucidate the nitrogen configuration and positions that affect the photothermal properties of Carbon Dots (CDs). Specifically, the elucidation of the mid-site nitrogen configuration (pyrrolic-N) was expected to be distinguished by neutron techniques. This investigation is crucial for developing CDs with remarkable photothermal ability for applications like cancer treatment and sunlight for water evaporation. We plan to use a combination of techniques, including MAPS and TOSCA, to understand how different nitrogen configurations (Nitrogen site) affect how CDs absorb light and convert it into heat. To characterize how nitrogen is embedded in the CD, we will calculate the INS spectra of a range of models that have nitrogen in different sites and different proportions. By studying six different samples of CDs with varying amounts of a specific type of nitrogen, called pyrrolic-N, we hope to find the best nitrogen setup that boosts the CDs' ability to turn light into heat. This research could lead to significant advancements in using CDs for medical and energy-related purposes.
