Investigation of Spin-excitation and Polaron hopping of a room temperature magnetodielectric system, NiNb2O6

Abstract: The NiNb2O6 system presents numerous intriguing phenomena across various physics domains, including short-range magnetic characteristics above the ordering temperature, a remarkable room temperature giant magnetoelectric effect, spin-lattice coupling, and single-ion anisotropy attributable to the versatile ground state of the magnetic Ni-ion. Thermal activation leads to polaron hopping between Ni+1-to-Ni+2 ions, suggesting robust electron-phonon interactions and highlighting the involvement of lattice vibrations in charge carrier mobility. In order to comprehend the exotic magnetic ground state behavior exhibited by this system, our intention is to conduct inelastic neutron scattering experiments in MARI instrument.
